A wide and sun-baked riverbed among the rolling hills
Encamped upon opposing sides before the blood would spill
In this valley of Elah two armies primed for war
Israelites and Philistines could live in peace no more
A mighty warrior stepped forth Goliath was his name
He taunted them defamed their God no Israelites came
For forty days he mocked the same demanding one-on-one
Let’s end this now Goliath roared nary a soul would come
When David heard the blasphemies this giant had spewed forth
He told King Saul the time has come it’s me you must endorse
David strode into the valley five stones and sling in hand
My God is here He’s by my side I’ll save the Promised Land
This giant story told is etched in history
His courage and his faith in God brought David victory
Our God is verity
Goliath sneered at David soon your flesh becomes a meal
For the birds of the air and the beasts of the field
The shepherd boy he did not flinch nor fear the roar of beasts
His faith and trust was in the Lord in God he did believe
With steely gaze a moment’s pause recalling victories
O’er a lions roar that echoed bear’s hungry for his sheep
Up rose his sling it whirled and sang a song of giant’s death
Goliath laughed but laughs no more a stone had kissed his head
A giant thud flat on his back David quick to proceed
To grasp Goliath’s giant sword his head from neck released
He raised it high in triumph for all Israelites to see
The shepherd boy adorned in praise but whispers brewed envy
This giant story told is etched in history
His courage and his faith in God brought David victory
In God you can believe
In God you can believe
