Last night attending a party
Remembering what my Mother said to me
As the night lingered on and the soiree grew loud
The drinking I left to the rest of the crowd
Mom you’d be oh so proud of me
The party finally broke the night was over
I stood and watched as the people drove away
I was standing there thinking the drunks are gone
So it’s safe for me to turn my engine on
Down the street I went on my way
My brown eyes slow but surely they did open
There were people all around looking down at me
In a pool of blood my back on the street
Without any feeling and cold as can be
Won’t someone some one help me please
Now here my parents kneeling by my side
The medic whispered in my Mother’s ear
What has happened here well it just ain’t right
Being hit by a drunk in the middle of the night
Brace yourself D-O-A is what I fear
Please oh please don’t cry for me my Mother
When I needed you you were always there
Just so you know I’m not the D-U-I
Why then why me why am I going to die
While the drunk is cuffed and still standing here
